Conference Program

Cutting Costs by Being Energy Efficient: Case Studies on Meeting the ENERGY STAR Challenge for Industry

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR program has challenged manufacturing sites to reduce their energy intensity by 10% or less within a 5 year period. Launched in the spring of 2010 and announced at last year’s INTERPHEX meeting, today over 200 sites have taken the Challenge for Industry and over 30 sites have achieved the Challenge. Over 1.8 Trillion BTUs in energy savings has been achieved by the manufacturing sites that have achieved the Challenge for Industry.
Many pharmaceutical manufacturing sites have signed up to take the Challenge and several have already achieved a 10% or greater reduction in energy intensity. This panel session will examine the measures that were taken to reduce energy intensity and have resulted in both cost savings and lower greenhouse gas emissions. Presentation will be made corporate energy directors from pharmaceutical companies who sites have achieved the Challenge for Industry. The panel session will be moderated by Walt Tunnessen, National Program Manager for the U.S. EPA’s ENERGY STAR program.
